If you're an international applicant wondering which UK medical schools accept international students, you're not alone.

Choosing where to apply is one of the most important steps in your medical school journey — especially when quotas, entry requirements, and acceptance rates vary widely between universities.

Most UK medical schools accept international students, but not all to the same extent.

Some universities place caps on the number of non-UK applicants they can admit each year. This is usually due to funding restrictions or limits imposed by government regulation. It's essential to understand the policies of each university before applying.

For example, in recent years, Nottingham Medical School has had up to 350 international applicants annually. While many met the academic criteria, only about 25% were invited to interview. Of those, roughly 15% received offers.

This highlights a common pattern: even at medical schools that accept international students, competition is often steeper than for home applicants due to smaller intake quotas.

It’s also important to note that entrance requirements may differ between Home and International students. This could include:

  • Different accepted qualifications (e.g. IB, A-levels, or regional equivalents)

  • Additional proof of English Language proficiency

  • Higher UCAT thresholds in some cases

Always check the specific entry requirements on each university's official admissions page.
